Charge up solar mobile charging station from NanoBright Solar is a revolutionary new
product that harnesses the power of sun. Robust in design, attractive and ideal
solution to charge the mobile phones to stay connected all the time uninterruptedly.
The solar mobile phone charging station consists of solar module to store power in
the built in storage battery during day time. It has Provision to charge four mobile
phones of reputed makes at a time.

Centralized Solar Mobile Phone Charging Station

While continuing its successful endeavour towards bringing solar based lighting into the lives of the rural masses, LaBL has recently progressed towards extending another basic facility to the villagers. LaBL has developed the concept of centralized solar photovoltaic based mobile phone charging facility as an extended service through its Solar Charging Stations. Today, mobile phone has become an indispensable device even in the remotest of areas. As an irony, most of these rural areas do not have access to satisfactory grid electricity. Clean charging facility for daily charging of mobile phones thus emerges as viable option in such regions. The LaBL Technical Support Unit has worked towards developing cost effective and robust models of solar based mobile phone charging facility. Both the options of having AC as well as DC ports for connecting
mobile phones were incepted, designed and customized. The basic concept includes an 80W solar module feeding a central 12V/75Ah battery that in-turn power a junction box containing 10 ports capable of charging 10 mobile phones simultaneously. The prototype developed by LaBL along with its product partners is capable of charging up to as many as 30 mobile phones in a day. The junction box in this facility contains all the required electronic circuitry for efficiently controlling the charging and discharging of the battery as well as eminently charging the individual mobile phone batteries. The junction box is further provided with all the essential LED based indicators for indicating conditions like ‘presence of PV’ ‘power at the ports’,
‘battery full charge’, ‘battery low charge’, etc. The option with the DC ports has the advantage
of being relatively more efficient by the virtue of having a simple DC–DC converter in regulated
mode and a simple current limiting circuit at each port. The varying output of the solar module is
fed into the central battery through the charge controller. The junction box engages further
circuitry to provide appropriate and voltage and current ranges for charging 10 mobile phones
simultaneously through the 10 ports. Each port is then provided with a bunch of connectors for
charging different mobile phones having various types of connecting sockets. Since these DC ports at the junction box are meant only for charging mobile phones, these are tamper proof meaning thereby that other appliances that run on conventional electricity can not be powered by such ports. This feature saves such a model from being unduly misused in the rural areas.
On the other hand, the model providing AC charging ports possess its own advantages. This model allows the customer to use his own mobile phone charger for charging. This model provides near grid quality AC electricity. The advantage of such a design is that all models of mobile phones can be charged with their respective chargers irrespective of the types of connecting sockets. Although the efficiency of the electronics is comparatively lower due to the inverter, such AC ports act as universal power sockets capable of charging all the disparate mobile phone models. LaBL charging stations shall soon be appended with such mobile phone charging facilities which shall bring additional income to the LaBL entrepreneur. Mobile phones shall be charged at a nominal tariff per full charging. These facilities shall also be installed with
other appropriate entrepreneurs such as shopkeepers, community centre caretakers, and so on. Department of Telecommunications, Government of India is financially supporting this ambitious pilot project of installing and maintaining 5000 such charging stations throughout the
country in the next two yaers.
